  Amarylla St. John Smart, (poet and astrological counsellor), was born on 29th April 1962 in Budapest, Hungary.

  
  

  Both her parents were psychologists. Her father Mihaly Vaszko was an eminent academic and author of several books on ergonomics and occupational psychology. Amarylla was a beautiful and prodigious child who amazed her parents with her ability to read the newspaper at the age of three. She was only eight years old when her secure, happy childhood was shaken by her fathers’ sudden death from a heart attack.

  
  

  Amarylla arrived in England in 1973 where her mother remarried. Amarylla integrated into a British way of life easily and graduated in Law in 1984. At Law School she met her soul-mate Philip St. John Smart. They married in 1983 and, two years later, moved to Hong Kong where Philip became a lecturer at the Law Faculty of Hong Kong University. Amarylla had several years of happiness and health with Philip in Hong Kong, living an interesting and busy life, travelling to exotic places throughout Asia.

  
  

  However in 1990 Amarylla developed an auto-immune disease. The rare combination of polyarthritis and vasculitis caused severe, long lasting suffering for Amarylla. In spite of medical treatment, as well as the devotion of Philip and Elsa (their much-loved cat), Amarylla suffered much of the time in the last 15 years of her life, her illness often confining her to her home and sometimes to bed. During the worst period of her illness in 1993, her suffering inspired her to write two volumes of poetry, and a new age philosophy book. She also dedicated her time to help others with illnesses through internet counselling.

  
  

  Amarylla’s sudden death on 16th October 2005 in Hong Kong devastated her family and friends.
